The No Kings Protest: A Christian Perspective
On June 14, 2025, millions of Americans took to the streets in what has become known as the No Kings Protest, a nationwide demonstration against authoritarianism and political corruption. Among those standing in solidarity were Christians, committed to justice, peace, and the teachings of Christ. Our little religious order, the Sacramental Community of the Coworkers of Christ, was one such community.
A Biblical Call to Resistance
Throughout history, people of faith have resisted earthly rulers who seek to elevate themselves above the people. The Bible offers numerous examples of such defiance—Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refusing to bow before King Nebuchadnezzar’s golden statue (Daniel 3), and Peter and John boldly proclaiming, “We must obey God rather than any human authority” (Acts 5:29). The No Kings Protest echoes these biblical principles, rejecting the idea that any leader should wield unchecked power over the people.
Standing for Justice and Peace
Christians believe that faith calls us to pursue peace and justice. The protest was not merely about opposing a political figure but about standing against policies that harm the marginalized, the poor, and the oppressed. Many demonstrators voiced concerns over the use of military force against citizens, the erosion of civil liberties, and the prioritization of wealth over human dignity.
A Peaceful Demonstration of Faith
As followers of Christ, protestors were reminded to resist peacefully. Organizers emphasized nonviolence, urging participants to respect law enforcement and avoid escalation. The movement was not about destruction but about building a future rooted in compassion, justice, and accountability.
Moving Forward
The No Kings Protest serves as a reminder that faith is not passive—it calls us to action. As Christians, we continue to pray for peace, advocate for justice, and stand firm in the belief that no earthly ruler should be placed above the principles of love, mercy, and righteousness. On this, there can be no compromise by those who would dare to self-identify as Christian.
